During the first 3 years of growth prairie grass requires a good deal of special care to get a fully established and healthy stand of grass. During that time (especially year 1) the grass will have weeds that will pop up within the grass. Prairie grass must be sprayed with Weed-Be-Gone to ensure the grass is not affected. For this reason, our landscaper will be maintaining the grass during this establishment period. Mowing prairie grass that is full height will kill the grass introducing weeds back into the area of prairie grass. Seeding can only take place during early spring and starting again in September. The hot summer temperatures and dry weather is not conducive to growing prairie grass and can kill off early growth. For this reason, we always try to plant in September and early October which gives the grass the best chance for healthy growth. Prairie grass requires a good deal of water to promote growth and develop the root system that will keep it alive through droughts. During the growing time we encourage you to water the grass to help promote growth. After the grass has fully established water must be cut back to only what falls from the sky as the grass will get overly thick and lay down. Once established prairie grass maintenance will be the responsibility of the HOA.
